How Do Computers Affect Your Eyes?
Computers are the #1 cause of eyestrain in the United States.
More than half of all computer users experience eyestrain symptoms such as headaches, blurred vision and other symptoms associated with the use of computer screens. This is called "Computer Vision Syndrome". Visual stress from excessive close-up work may also cause complaints of general fatigue, reduced efficiency at work and higher error rates as the amount of time spent using computers increases.
Human eyes were designed to support our hunter-gatherer ancestors to enable them for example to spot game or danger at a distance. The vision skills that served our ancestors are different from those we need in modern society today, particularly at it relates to computers.
Viewing text and graphics on computer screens has created a new source of stress on our eyes and overall vision system. Today, nearly all our visual demand's on the job and during recreation have shifted to close up viewing, meaning within arm's length away.
The most common reason today people go to the eye doctor is because their eyes feel strained from working on the computer. According to research, the number of eye exams due to computer related strain was up to 20 million by the year 2000. A study by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health found that 88 percent of people who worked on computers complained of eyestrain as their primary symptom when working with a computer.
The visual skills need to work on a computer include the ability to:
- Aim your eyes together.
- Focus your eyes on the screen.
- Move your eyes across the computer screen easily from one area to another.
Today, computer users must persist in these complex visual tasks for many hours on end, a stress for which our eyes were not designed.

How does the magic eye exercise program work?
The magic eye exercise program is fun and easy. It works by enabling your eyes to relax and strengthen.
You will do a series of magic eye pictures at your computer. Once you get the magic eye images in focus, you will follow the instructions that go with that particular image in order for your eye muscles to get the full benefit from each picture.
You can do the magic eye exercise program at home, at school or at your office, wherever you have a computer.
We recommend that you do the Magic Eye exercises regularly throughout the day, taking regularly scheduled breaks from your computer to help you protect your vision and maintain healthy vision.
All you have to do is to decide how often you'd like to do the exercises, how many you'd like to do each time, and when you'd like to start. Your computer will do the rest, reminding you when it is time to start and automatically displaying the exercises you have selected.
Can anyone see a Magic Eye image?
DEPTH PERCEPTION depends on having two eyes. Most people who have depth perception can see a Magic Eye image. People with impaired depth perception or people who have one eye which is extremely dominant (as in amblyopia) will have more difficulty seeing the image.
